Sometimes, in the course of life, you only want someone to listen to you. You don’t want them to fix you or fix your problems. You want them to listen.
When you find a person who listens to you, maybe a spouse or a friend, you know that person is expressing love.
One day I was reading the Bible and came across a verse that teaches us that God is a listening God. He has a listening ear. And this means he loves us. Psalm 116:1-2: “I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.”
While we cannot see God, we can always go to him and know that he will listen to us. In fact, “as long as we live” we can go to him for a listening ear.
Do you have stress? Are you sorrowful? (Ps 116:3). You need someone to talk to who will listen. Go to God in prayer. Tell him all your troubles. You will find a listening ear. Even better: you will find that he is gracious, righteous, and compassionate (Ps 116:5).
And to top it off, not only is God listening to you, he is listening to his Son, Jesus. Jesus is speaking to God on our behalf, and Christ’s prayers the Father always listens to and answers.
